Deerhound dogs have long been praised as one of the best looking dogs that is graceful even in its demeanor. Deerhounds are usually friendly by nature and though they are quite friendly with the kids, they should never be left unsupervised with them. This is due to the size of the dogs.
The life-span of deerhounds are between 9 -11 years old and they do need to be taken out for an exercise session ever so often so that they will be healthy.
The Deerhound is similar in appearance to the Greyhound. The historical aspect of Deerhounds are actually very sketchy but what we do know is that it probably shares relation to the “Highland Greyhound”. Deerhounds were trained to be somewhat hunters as they were trained to stalk red deer. At some point these dogs were used in sporting games.
Deerhounds are easy dogs to train but it takes a little while for them to get the training down pact. Because of the nature of these dogs, they would not bark or make a scene if someone were to come to your home.
Deerhounds are usually healthy and lean looking dogs when they are young, but the minute they get to adult life, they tend to get a bit more lazier, which in turn gives them a much larger size.
That’s why it is imperative to take your Deerhound for regular walks and runs and just general exercise so that they can be healthy in their old age. The kinds of food that you feed your Deerhound as well would impact on his years to come.
Most who own Deerhounds love and appreciate their faithful companionship and the love and respect that they show their owners.
